I have a few 90's CD players (Sony CDP-227ESD, Sony CDP-710 and Kenwood DP7090 amongst others) and I feel that these players are still really good. I guess my ears are getting old, but I don't see any benefit when comparing these to hires music. The Google Nexus 7 tablet's headphone output has a similar peculiarity as well in the highs...
